PurposeThere is considerable efforts by government and various agencies towards the development of information and communication technology (ICT) skills in the developing nations. The efforts include the procurement and deployment of ICT devices and curriculum development; but, these are not yielding the ultimate results as the digital divide continue to widen regionally. This calls for innovation in teaching and learning in ICT. The study assessed the effectiveness of infusion approach to teaching and learning in the tertiary education level. This approach utilises a framework and student-centred approach for which its effectiveness as an instructional delivery was tested for efficacy.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest comparison to assess the treatment given. Performance was measured quantitatively through online assessment.FindingsThe results showed a phenomenal effectiveness of infusion approach to teaching and learning of general ICT skills as the participants achieved very high performance at the end of the instructional period.Research limitations/implicationsThis research is based on general ICT skills and covers a regional cross-section of Nigeria.Practical implicationsAdoption of infusion approach to teaching and learning in ICT would close the prevailing knowledge gaps in the development of ICT skills.Social implicationsThis infusion approach would close the prevailing digital divide, thereby enhancing societal well-being.Originality/valueThis is a novel approach to the development of ICT skills, which would enhance teaching and learning in ICT.

This study aims to develop the Thinking-Based Learning (TBL) module for learning secondary school Algebra. This study uses the developmental model design and the TBL module is designed using the combination of ADDIE Model and Kemp Model. It is conducted in five phases: (1) Analysis (2) Design of TBL Module, (3) Development of TBL Module (4) Implementation, and (5) Assessment of TBL Module. The research instruments are the Content Validity Form and Module Reliability Survey. The validity of the module is validated by three experts in the field of mathematics education. Sample of the study in the evaluation phase consisted of the pre-service secondary school mathematics teachers which are selected using random sampling technique.The findings showed that the content validity and the reliability indices for the TBL module are at a satisfactory level.Significantly, the TBL module is able to provide guidance to all secondary school mathematics teachers in customary teaching practices for the inculcation of higher level thinking, thus generating knowledgeable generation and a good problem solver for the present and future challenges.

Impact of Critical Thinking Skills on Learning Outcome: A Review of Researchers’ Findings

This paper investigates the findings of seven researchers on the learning outcomes of their research on Critical Thinking skills. Meta-analysis of data gathered from the seven researchers formed the basis of this study. The purpose of applying this approach is to gather diverse views and opinions from diverse participants. This helps to establish a hypothesis and encourages procedures for further studies. This research emphasises the exposure to critical thinking skills that have generated various learning outcomes among students in various academic environments. It also seeks to differentiate whether an effect is present in a study and determine whether it is positive or negative. The varied, diverse approaches of the researchers provided rich data for analysis. The seven researchers were able to elaborate on their respective findings. Upon comparing the various findings, the results appeared to vary on the impact of critical thinking on learning. But analysis of these findings revealed that exposure to critical thinking generally positively impacted learning. Research findings have thus shown a common trend that the teaching of critical thinking skills has an impact on learning. However, problems such as the academic levels of international students or the lack of facilities in rural areas did contribute to the outcomes.
