Wide regions of Morocco, from the Meseta to the High Atlas, have experienced km-scale upward vertical movements during Middle Jurassic to Early Cretaceous times following the appearance of oceanic crust in the Central Atlantic. The area experiencing exhumation was flanked to the W by a domain of continuous subsidence, part of which is named the Essaouira-Agadir basin. Comparison with vertical movement curves predicted by lithospheric thinning models shows that only 50-60 % of the subsidence documented in the Essaouira basin can be explained by postrift thermal relaxation and that \30-40 % of the observed exhumation can be explained by processes (in)directly related to the evolution of the Central Atlantic rifted margin. Syn-sedimentary structures in Middle Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous formations of the Eassouira-Agadir basin are common and range from m-scale folds and thrusts to km-scale sedimentary wedges. These structures systematically document coeval shortening generally oriented at high angle to the present margin. As a working hypothesis, it is suggested that regional shortening can explain the structural observations and the enigmatic vertical movements.

Strain Partitioning Controlled by Oblique Ramp in Intracratonic Chains in Tunisia: Example of Gafsa Basin

The aim of this contribution is the interpretation of intracratonic chains in African plates, but it is important to verify some parameters such us the oblique convergence between Africa and Europa plates. Particularly in southern central of atlassic Tunisian belts, the slickenside examination of directional preexisting faults of N120 direction shows the coexistence of thrusting and strike-slip faults striation. In the limits of these faults principally in some tectonics lens we distinguish abnormal contacts with Triassic facies. The kinematic evolution of Gafsa basin resumed in the geometry of strike-slip faults connected in the thrusting system, this movement resulted from the oblique convergence on Ben Younes, Bou Ramli and Attig chains during compressive phases. This deformation style requires a shortening axis oblique to the NW-SE accidents (N120). The strain partitioning model verify the geometry of faults and equivalent evolution of folds and confirms the Triassic decollement level but without integrated of basement structures in the deformation. It permeated a passive transport of deformation observed in cover structure.

RESUMENLas cuencas triásico-jurásicas del Alto Muluya han registrado la evolución del proceso de "rifting" que ocurrió en el Atlas: una apertura en la dirección SO-NE, una sedimentación continental sintectónica y un volcanismo activo. En este proceso se formaron cuencas a modo de sucesivos escalones asimétricos, que fueron hundiéndose a lo largo del tiempo. Estas cuencas, en especial durante la formación de las series terrígenas (argilites salifères supérieures en la literatura francesa de la región: Michard, 1976;Kaoukaya, 1987) de la base del Jurásico, muestran una organización típica de relleno continental sintectónico, con intercalaciones volcanosedimentarias y volcanoclásticas, generalmente con sedimentos gruesos hacia la base, progresivamente más finos hacia el techo. El origen de estos depósitos se debe a la erosión de relieves próximos en vías de reactivación. Los depósitos más gruesos, nutridos por cantos volcánicos, forman secuencias de depósitos aluviales y fluviales entre las que se intercalan de forma irregular facies arcillosas de llanura de inundación. El relleno se producía por fuertes descargas intermitentes con una gran cantidad de sedimentos, propias de corrientes torrenciales que depositaban los sedimentos a lo largo de los escarpes originados por fallas. El techo de las series terrígenas muestra un predominio de detríticos finos y no presenta restos volcanoclásticos, lo que refleja el arrasamiento de los relieves en el área fuente y la instauración en el área de depósito de una llanura de inundación. Esto atestigua una homogenización generalizada durante un periodo de calma tectónica. Durante el depósito de las series terrígenas, las rocas piroclásticas se formaron en los sectores tectónicamente activos (Tizi n'Rechou, Tizi n'Toumelba, Tawrirt, Boutkhoubaye et Boumia), donde son potentes y variadas. Este volcanismo tardío se produce en relación con las últimas fases del "rifting" manifestado por el rejuego de estructuras mayores hercinianas y tardi-hercinianas. Así, durante el Triásico y la base del Jurásico la región estuvo sometida a la extensión producida en los estadios iniciales de la apertura del Atlántico central y del Tethys occidental.Palabras clave: Marruecos, región de Boumia-Tizi n'Rechou, Triásico superior-Jurásico basal, dinámica sedimentaria, geodinámica.
