A requirements catalog for mobile learning environments

Abstract: Mobile learning (m-learning) can be characterized by the ability to promote a strong interaction among apprentices and tutors, assuring greater motivation, convenience and flexibility to the learning process. Mobile learning environments have emerged in this context as a way to support the m-learning initiatives. However, despite their relevance, there is no complete and welldefined set of requirements for such systems. Motivated by this scenario, in this paper we present a requirements catalog for mobile lear… Show more

“…The proactive approach is appropriate when the requirements for a set of products to be created are stable and can be defined in advance [Krueger, 2002]. In this context, our SPL was based on the m-learning requirements catalog proposed by [Duarte Filho and Barbosa, 2013] and the quality model ISO/IEC 25010 [ISO/IEC, 2010]. This catalog was established from the results of a systematic review also conducted in the domain of this study.…”

“…Thus, an ILE can be seen as a mobile learning environment with similar functional requirements. Furthermore, ability to promote a strong interaction among students and teachers, improving motivation, and flexibility of the learning process are functional requirements for categorizing mobile learning environments (Barbosa, 2013). Please note that, this research considers the functional requirements of mobile learning environment necessary for ILE.…”

“…Moreover, the main characteristics of mobile devices which influence the learning content for offline m-learning object are screen resolution from the small ones of the cellphones to the large ones of laptops; screen mode in portrait or landscape; supported markup and script languages, and supported multimedia file formats. Filho and Barbosa (2013) organized several characteristics and criteria of the m-learning environment. Related to multimedia, the m-learning object should support different types of media (such as text, audio, video, and augmented reality) with high quality.…”
