A renewable approach toward the development of mahua oil‐based wood protective polyurethane coatings: Synthesis and performance evaluation

Abstract: In the current scenario, the demand for renewable resources is increasing day by day due to numerous factors. In view of this, current work represents the preparation of wood protective polyurethane (PU) coatings from mahua oil. Mahua oil was used as a starting material for the synthesis of fatty amide by base catalyzed aminolysis reaction. The synthesized fatty amide was converted into the polyetheramide polyols by a condensation reaction with bisphenol C. The structure of the synthesized products was confirm… Show more

“…These PUs had no discernible fungicidal or microbicidal effects on microbial or fungal strains. 54 The PU coating on metal plating provides a protective measure against oxygen, which reduces the rate of corrosion by reducing the presence of oxygen, H+ ions and water on metal surfaces. 67,68 Due to polar urethane and ether parts, the PU coating resulted in excellent chemical resistance and outstanding mar resistance reported by Pawar et al 21 Not only that, the outstanding flexibility is granted by the ether linkages and polar urethane as well as the lengthy fatty amide chains, which also enhance adhesion to the substrate.…”

“…Antibacterial PU coatings produced from epoxidized LO and PO-based polyol were also tested against E. coli [ 106 ], and the bioflavonoids karanjin and pongamol played an important role in the performance of the coatings [ 171 ]. MO-based PUFA also exhibited good antibacterial activities [ 146 , 147 , 148 ].…”
