A Reinvestigation of the Structures of Arbortristosides A and B from Nyctanthes arbor-tristis

Abstract: The structures of arbortristosides A and B have been reinvestigated by proton decoupling experiments and 2D correlated nmr spectroscopy. The aryl ester groups in both arbortristosides A and B have been found to be at position 7, not at 6 as reported earlier.

“…1,2 Earlier phytochemical studies on this plant resulted in the isolation of a number of iridoid glycosides from the leaves [3][4][5][6][7] and the seeds. [8][9][10] Three carotenoid glucosides were also isolated from the corolla tubes of the plant. 11 A new phenylpropanoid glycoside (nyctoside A) has been isolated from the seeds 12 and desrhamnosylverbascoside from the leaves.…”

“…Its roots are composed of alkaloids, tannins and glucosides. The glycosides are iridoid glycosides and phenylpropanoid glycosides [8][9][10], Iridoid glucosides, arbortristoside A, B, D and E have been isolated from seeds [11][12][13]. The mannitol is abundantly found in the flower of NA.…”

“…3 Previous investigation on the chemical constituents of the genus Heynea has yielded a series of new limonoids, including trijugin-type, 30-nortrijugin-type, phragmalin-type, and mexicanolide-type. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] In our continuing effort to search for novel limonoids from Meliaceae family, five new mexicanolide-type limonoids (1)(2)(3)(4)(5) were isolated from the branches and leaves of H. trijuga collected from Hainan province of China. Herein we describe the isolation, structural elucidation and bioactivity assays of these compounds.…”
