“…Singh and Mohanty 8 reported a patient with vasculotoxic SE at 29 wk of gestation who received 15 vials of polyvalent AV and later successfully delivered a healthy baby at 36 wk of gestation. However, the fetal outcome was grave in a patient with SE at 26 wk of gestation who presented to the hospital with an abruptio placentae, as reported by Mittal et al 9 from north India. The authors attributed the untoward outcome to the delay in AV administration that resulted in bleeding manifestations, including abruptio placentae and, later, disseminated intravascular coagulation.…”

“…4 -6 Various mechanisms have been proposed for the occurrence of fetal death or abortions following SE, such as direct venom toxicity on the fetus leading to fetal anoxia, premature uterine contraction, hemorrhagic manifestations to the placenta or uterus, maternal shock, cytokinin release, and anaphylactic reaction from the AV. 9,10 Seneviratne et al, 5 in their study from Sri Lanka, documented that the major factors associated with the risk of adverse fetal outcomes are systemic envenomation and a gestational period of 18 wk or less. Our case was in the third trimester of pregnancy and nearly full term.…”

“…But the most reason remain placental abruption [9] [10]. This occurs when the toxin reaches the deciduo-placental cleavage zone, and starts a dissociation [11]. Foetal loss resulted also from delayed presentation such as reported in the first case.…”

“…If the toxin in the snake venom is a coagulating agent, when it reaches the deciduo-placental cleavage zone, it may start a dissociation that ends up in placental abruption [15].…”
