A rare case of intramedullary cervical spinal cord meningioma and review of the literature

Abstract: Report: A 21-year-old man presented with progressive paraesthesia and weakness in the four limbs, with disturbances in the vibration and positional senses. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cervical intramedullary tumour from the cervicomedullary junction to C3. Radical resection of the tumour was performed and histology revealed a meningioma. His clinical outcome after a 3-year follow-up is relatively good. Conclusion: Intramedullary cervical meningiomas are very rare and have been reported only five time… Show more

“…A syrinx can occur in rare cases of intramedullary meningiomas. 81 The angiographic characteristics of spinal meningiomas are similar to those of intracranial meningiomas, with an important feature being the long duration of the tumor stain persisting into the venous phase. 88 Pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (PCASL) represents a novel imaging technique reported useful in reliably assessing meningioma vascularity and tumor blood flow.…”

“…Most intradural spinal tumors are benign and potentially resectable, so the prognosis after surgical resection is excellent [9,10]. …”
