A Rapid Photopatterning Method for Selective Plating of 2D and 3D Microcircuitry on Polyetherimide

Abstract: In this work, a method for the rapid synthesis of metallic microtracks on polyetherimide is presented. The method relies on the photosynthesis of silver nanoparticles on the surface of the polymer substrates from photosensitive silver chloride (AgCl), which is synthesized directly on the polyetherimide surface. The study reveals that the use of AgCl as a photosensitive intermediate accelerates the reactions leading to the formation of silver nanoparticles by up to two orders of magnitude faster than other phot… Show more

“…LM offers a brilliant solution toward the settlement of these drawbacks, yet LM‐based electronics suffer from corrosion at the contact between liquid metal and metal. In recent years, various strategies have been explored to develop corrosion resistant coatings for flexible electronics and to improve the LM patterning techniques on soft substrates . Dickey and Franklin et al reported the use of printed carbon nanotubes as flexible electrode and interconnect material, which was used in conjunction with EGaIn to form reliable thin‐film transistors (TFTs).…”

“…We suggest that the thiol-silver interaction has led to the reduction of Ag + to Ag NPs, which corresponds to the change of the absorbance intensity. The absorbance that occurs at lower than 400 nm is due to PEI polymer [6]. For both 2-ME concentrations, the absorbance intensity increases with longer exposure times at the tested wavelengths.…”

“…Therefore, choosing of suitable active materials, reducing their particle size, increasing the uniformity of particles and minimizing the laser heat affected zone, are the main ways to improve the fineness of FCEM. In recent years, a variety of materials has been used as active materials to prepare FCEMs, such as palladium oxide [4][5][6][7], copper aluminate [8] and carbon nanotubes [9][10][11][12]. These materials, however, showed different processing problems that limited development of FCEMs.…”
