A Randomized, Double-Blind, Split-Body, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Tolerability of a Topical Body Firming Moisturizer for Upper Arm Rejuvenation

Abstract: Background Skin aging of upper arm, induced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors, often results in loss of contour, elasticity and firmness, and increase in laxity, crepiness, roughness and photodamage. A topical body firming moisturizer (TBFM) was developed to target all aspects of aged body skin. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the TBFM for upper arm firming and rejuvenation. … Show more

“…These results may be due to improved skin density and triglyceride breakdown in the subcutaneous adipose tissue. 15,16 Across all subjects, there was an overall trend of increased dermal density observed in ultrasound measurements and images between baseline and D84.…”

“…Remove fatty acids, cellular waste, and excess fluid 39 At 8 and 12 weeks, the proportion of patients with specific improvements impacting skin quality, as judged by a blinded clinical grader, was significantly greater for BodiFirm than for placebo (P≤0.05). At 12 weeks, BodiFirm treatment was associated with improvements in skin crepiness in 97% of subjects, underarm laxity in 83% of subjects, and photodamage in 83% of subjects; and BodiFirm also demonstrated significantly greater response rates versus baseline for skin roughness, firmness (visual), skin tone evenness (lack of red areas), and hyperpigmentation.…”

“…However, only the percentage of responders (not the degree of improvement) was directly compared between treatments. 39 In a randomized, double-blind, split-body pilot study, TransFORM Body Treatment with TriHex Technology (TBT; Alastin Skincare, Inc., Carlsbad, CA) was compared with a bland moisturizer in women (N=11; age range, 25-65 years) following cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting System; Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company, Irvine, CA) for bilateral reduction of upper arm adiposity. 8 Subjects applied each treatment to opposing arms (treatment assignment was randomized) twice daily for 24 weeks post-procedure.…”

“…The dermal skin layer, consisting of complex extracellular matrix proteins and collagen fibers, provides skin strength and elasticity [1]. Both intrinsic factors (influenced by genetics) and extrinsic components (chronic exposure to environmental aggressors, such as ultraviolet radiation) induce skin aging [2]. Intrinsically aged skin is characteristically thin and dry, with increased laxity and a crepe-like texture, while extrinsically aged skin is typically thick, coarse, leathery, and has uneven pigmentation [2].…”
