“…We found that compared to White individuals, Black individuals demonstrated a lower tolerance for experimental cold pain, which may be related to their increased use of praying and catastrophizing as pain coping strategies. Our results suggest that in addition to focusing on reducing catastrophic cognitions 42,43 , psychosocial treatments for chronic pain should encourage patients to take a more active role in their treatment rather than passively praying for relief. Further, the present findings support the need to examine a broader conceptualization of prayer in order to elucidate the aspects of prayer that influence pain sensitivity.…”

“…Second, identifying borderline morbidly obese and morbidly obese OA patients who are prone to pain catastrophizing could lead to more timely referral of patients for interventions designed to reduce pain catastrophizing. Pain catastrophizing is a modifiable pain cognition (32), and reductions in pain catastrophizing could potentially improve the patient's pain and quality of life.…”

“…A substantial amount of evidence from the literature indicates that cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is efficacious in alleviating headache pain. The benefits of CBT include reduced medication use and decreased headache frequency, intensity, and duration (10,11).…”
