A raça Indubrasil no Nordeste brasileiro: melhoramento e estrutura populacional

Abstract: gains were probably due to a reduction in the effective size and increasing inbreeding within the period. Furthermore, the drastic reduction in the number of births per year and the low use of unrelated sires within the herds make the Indubrasil breed a genetic group potentially threatened by extinction, so that conservationist and expansion programmes should be set up.

“…These methods have provided significant insights into the genetic structure of economically important species. Despite these advances there is still a need for information about pedigree in order to identify temporal trends and to evaluate inbreeding, confirmation of pedigree, effective size, generation interval, genetic diversity and several other important population parameters (FARIA et al, 2004;CARNEIRO et al 2009;MALHADO et al, 2008a,b;MARTÍNEZ et al, 2008). Studies utilizing historical pedigree records can identify and uncover important circumstances that have influenced the genetic history of a population (VALERA et al, 2005), moreover, some population parameters that are strongly dependent on management and mating systems have significant impacts on genetic variability.…”

“…Valores inferiores foram relatados na região Nordeste para raças Gir Mocha (20) e Indubrasil (22) com 39 e 225 ancestrais, respectivamente, explicando 50% da variabilidade genética da população. De acordo com Faria et al (23) , a preservação da variabilidade genética em determinada população é fundamental para elevar o retorno a curto e longo prazo da seleção, bem como para fins de conservação.…”

“…The average generation interval is critical in a screening program, because it is directly related to the annual genetic gain of selected characteristics and to the economic return of the program (CARNEIRO et al, 2009). …”
