Show more

“…From this 'screening' process, it is observed whether within each elected group, there are scenarios that go beyond location, housing and restrictions on access to the labour market. Such restrictions are present in all federative units (UFs) of Brazil but in different proportions so that it shows the disparity of economic growth of the least and most favoured groups (Ramos, 2015;Ribeiro et al, 2015;Seshamani, 2001). Ravallion and Datt (2002) and Hiromoto (2018) agree that inequality is a factor that directly affects levels of poverty, since there are various types of inequalities, each of which affects conditions of poverty differently.…”

“…Pro-poor growth through the labour market encounters difficulties, which in general are divided into three problems: (i) high unemployment rates; (ii) expansion of informality; and (iii) a wage gap. Furthermore, informality presents a duality: first, it involves services that require low qualification of the workforce; second, these services have low productivity and economic return (de Assis & Linhares, 2018;Hiromoto, 2018;Machado et al, 2007;Ramos, 2015;Rocha, 2019;Zepeda et al, 2007). Zepeda et al (2007) suggest a chain of factors necessary in the labour market to reduce poverty.…”

“…In the view of Araújo, Alves and Besarria (2013), in Brazil, problems with poverty have existed since the colonization period, aggravated throughout societal development, the emergence of industry and technological advances. Although poverty is treated as a persistent phenomenon in Brazil, works by Ramos (2015) and Rocha (2006) show a decreasing trajectory of this phenomenon in periods such as the late 1990s and 2000s.…”
