A Quad-Port Dual-Band MIMO Antenna Array for 5G Smartphone Applications

Abstract: A quad-port antenna array operating in 3.5 GHz band (3.4–3.6 GHz) and 5 GHz band (4.8–5 GHz) for fifth-generation (5G) smartphone applications is presented in this paper. The single antenna element consists of an L-shaped strip, a parasitic rectangle strip, and a modified Z-shaped strip. To reserve space for 2G/3G/4G antennas, the quad-port antenna array is printed along the two long frames of the smartphone. The evolution design and the analysis of the optimal parameters of a single antenna element are derive… Show more

“…The proposed antenna in [24] operates only in LTE band 42 and 43 and has a impedance bandwidth of only 11.11 %. In [25], [26] 4 × 4 MIMO antenna array is designed that will have lesser peak channel capacity values when compared to the proposed antenna. In [27], [28] edge side-frames with thickness upto 7 mm are used to design the antenna elements.…”

“…Another point of this proposal is the authors have not done any SAR analysis which is very important for the implementation of this design in the smartphone. A quad port 2 × 2 MIMO antenna for smartphones has been proposed in [7]. The single antenna element for the MIMO is based on the combination of L-shaped, rectangular shaped and Z-shaped strips.…”

“…In [22], an eight element MIMO antenna system is proposed for sub-6 GHz 5G mobile terminals. The proposed antenna array in [23] consists of an L-shaped feeding strip, a parasitic rectangle strip, and a modified Z-shaped radiating strip, which operates on the 3.5 GHz band (3.4-3.6 GHz) and 5 GHz band (4.8-5 GHz) for the applications of 5G. A multi-band MIMO antenna is designed to meet the requirements of the 4G and 5G mobile terminals with essential bandwidth for higher data rate applications [24].…”
