A Psychometric Analysis of the Greek Career Adapt-Abilities Scale in University Students

Abstract: Based upon substantial research on career adaptability, and on specific cross-cultural validation research of the Career Adapt-abilities Scale (CAAS) (Savickas & Porfeli, 2012) we recruited a sample of Greek university students (Ν = 452) in order to test further the Greek form of the scale. Confirmatory Factor Analysis models showed that the four-factor structure was supported for the Greek form, comprising four dimensions: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. The original six items per dimensi… Show more

“…A fundamental aspect of reliability is the test–retest reliability, which illuminates the stability of scores over time. Longitudinal assessments of the CAAS, conducted by researchers such as Tolentino et al (2014) , Di Maggio et al (2015) , and Sidiropoulou-Dimakakou et al (2018) , involved measuring participants at two different points. The results, as indicated by Pearson’s r, demonstrated a commendable stability in CAAS scores, affirming its reliability in capturing the enduring aspects of career adaptability.…”

“…Its four-factor structure is retained across measurements in different populations (e.g. Hou et al, 2012; Sidiropoulou-Dimakakou et al, 2018; Tolentino et al, 2014). Convergent validity of CAAS has been supported in many studies through strong positive relations of the instrument with a plethora of work- and life-related variables such as meaning in life (Yuen & Yau, 2015), vocational exploration (Porfeli & Savickas, 2012), perceived career self-efficacy and career resilience (Sidiropoulou-Dimakakou et al, 2015), courage (Sovet et al, 2018) and self-esteem (Sidiropoulou et al, 2018).…”

This scale has also shown good internal reliability coefficients ranging in most contexts from α = .70 to α = .90 for the total scale and the subscales (Savickas & Porfeli, 2012).…”

“…Furthermore, the increase in unemployment rates, the proliferation of flexible employment contracts, and changes in professional domains have become more prevalent in contemporary society. These transformations in the employment sphere necessitate individuals to adapt to multiple roles, navigate through career transitions, align their lives with specific goals, and enhance their efficacy and self-beliefs (Savickas, 2013; Sidiropoulou-Dimakakou et al, 2014, as cited in Sidiropoulou-Dimakakou et al, 2016). Recent scholarly investigations have highlighted the significance of flexibility as a crucial attribute supporting career development and fostering success (Arthur, 2014;Hamtiaux et al, 2013;Lent & Brown, 2013).…”
