How the sharing economy can move toward sustainable development is an important research topic. This paper attempts to explore the mediating effect of ecosystem strategy on the relationship between sharing characteristics and sustainable development performance by applying the structural equation model and questionnaire survey of 90 sharing-economy enterprises. The research results show that the ecosystem strategy plays a complete mediating role in the relationship between sharing characteristics and environmental performance, a partial mediating role in the relationship between sharing characteristics and social performance, and an insignificant mediating role in the relationship between sharing characteristics and economic performance. The research results provide new knowledge for research on the sustainable development of the sharing economy, which are of certain reference value for the sustainable development of sharing-economy enterprises, and government’s support to and supervision of the sharing economy.

Business Ecosystems supported by the increasing use and expansion of communication networks represent nowadays a powerful form of collaboration, enabling organizations better responding to more challenging business opportunities. In this context, performance indicators are needed for measuring collaboration benefits of a business ecosystem as a whole and of its individual members, the organizations. But such indicators may also induce a self-adjustment of the organizations' behavior, as there is a natural tendency of individuals and organizations to adapt to the way they are evaluated. As such, an adequate selection of performance indicators can help the sustainability of the ecosystem. The level of reaction to indicators is nevertheless not the same for all members of the ecosystem, i.e. there are different classes of responsiveness. Using system dynamics and multi-agent systems, the focus of this paper is the study of the evolution of the agents of a collaborative business ecosystem, depending on the performance indicators used to assess their performance and considering their class of responsiveness.

In an increasingly competitive market, small and medium enterprises have the temporarily option to divide their core competencies in sub‐competences. In fact, this is the purpose of so‐called virtual organizations (VOs), which aim to attend a particular goal joining partner forces. However, when these VOs are created, it is necessary to deal with the maximum number of participants involved in the process and the risk involved in these relationships, which should be measured through a well‐defined process. This paper aims to present an approach to dimensioning the maximum number of participants involved in the formation of a VO composed of several service providers. This approach is based on the overall risk level of the participants and uses different risk analysis methods to assess the suitable number of participants to be part of a VO.
