The materialization of the 4 th Industrial Revolution needs to emphasize the role of collaboration. Traditional business ecosystems have evolved to hyperconnected organizations facing more advanced collaboration models, dynamic networks, and more complex smart systems. Emerging collaborative aspects in this context need to be identified, and tools developed to help organizations coping with changing environment, market, and societal needs. As such, an assessment model is proposed to measure the expected self-adjustment of organizations in a collaborative business ecosystem, induced by performance indicators, in order to improve the organizations themselves and the ecosystem as a whole. Organizations with distinct profiles, categorized by classes of responsiveness, respond differently to the collaboration opportunities they may receive, or are more likely to invite others to collaborate. This behaviour is expected to be influenced by the variation in importance (weight) of each specific performance indicator adopted in a given business ecosystem, as the organizations, like individuals, tend to evolve according to how they are evaluated. To assess the proposed approach, an experiment has been set up using a simulation model based on system dynamics and agents. Preliminary results, based on a number of relevant scenarios, are presented and discussed.

The concept of collaborative networks has been encountered very often lately as the answer when trying to adapt and improve enterprises in these highly competitive business environments, therefore the urge for constantly addressing this topic. A lot of work-related to collaborative networks has been done so far, from defining network types to leveling partnerships and proposing models for partnership developments. But the lack of tackling a very important obstacle, which is the difficulty of detecting and anticipating collaboration opportunities between enterprises, inspired this research. In this article, a new theoretical opportunity detection approach is proposed based on enterprise characterization concept, KPI classification as well as collaboration types. This detection approach is a table of industrial classifications that imitates the Mendeleev periodic table from the concept point of view. A fictional example from an industrial context is shown to explain the usage of this approach accompanied by discussion about future work and limitations.

In a Collaborative Business Ecosystem, Performance Indicators are a useful mechanism to assess collaboration performance, inducing selfadjustment in organization's profile, thereby improving the sustainability of the ecosystem. Using system dynamics and agent-based modelling, a simulation model is assembled to show organizations' self-adjustment by improving their profile in response to an assessment through a chosen set of performance indicators, such as innovation indicator, contribution indicator and prestige indicator. The natural reaction of organizations (similar to individuals) towards improving their performance according to the way they are evaluated, is modelled considering different enterprise profiles categorized into various classes of responsiveness, to better simulate the diversity in a real collaborative business ecosystem. Preliminary results of this approach are presented and discussed.
