“…However, to select candidates for ALND without SLNB, there must be clear diagnostic criteria, and several criteria have been proposed (Table 4). 2,3,[9][10][11] Murakami 2 reported that a soybean-shaped lymph node was signifi cantly more likely to be metastatic, whereas "C"-shaped or ring-like lymph nodes were more likely to be non-metastatic in contrast-enhanced imaging. Hata et al 3 reported that lymph nodes larger than or equal to 5 mm on the short axis were considered to be abnormal on CT. To select candidates for ALND without SLNB, a high positive predictive value is required and to fulfi ll this requirement, we defi ned a metastatic lymph node as an oval or round lymph node with more than 5 mm on the short axis.…”

“…The positive predictive value for diagnosing nodal status on the basis of CT fi ndings has been reported to range from 72% to 95%. 2,3,[9][10][11] Accordingly, our criteria enabled us to obtain a high positive predictive value of 90.9%. Yuen et al 11 used CT to evaluate both SLN and lymph nodes more distal than the SLN, and reported that the sensitivity of CT was 76% and the positive predictive value was 95%.…”
