Background Teachers with high educational levels significantly impact the health-related knowledge and attitudes of young students and their family members. This study aimed to investigate the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine hesitancy and associated factors, and compare the differences between decision-makers and non-decision-makers among college teachers. Methods A cross-sectional online survey was administered across mainland China from 4 to 7 August 2021. Overall, 251 college teachers were included using snowball sampling. A multivariable logistic regression model was applied to explore the association between decision-makers and hesitancy to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Results Overall, 42.2% of the teachers were hesitant to being vaccinated against COVID-19. The hesitancy rate was lower among primary decision-makers than that among non-decision-makers (34.8% vs. 60.3%, p < .001). Primary decision-makers were less hesitant regarding COVID-19 vaccination than non-decision-makers (OR = 0.37, 95% CI 0.20–0.70); remarkably, whereas those engaged in nursing education versus non-medical related professional education (OR = 2.67, 95% CI 1.29–5.49), and partial versus full-course vaccination recipients (OR = 4.48, 95% CI: 1.76–11.42) were more likely to be hesitant regarding COVID-19 vaccination. Conclusion Our findings indicate that a high proportion of college teachers in China are hesitant to receiving COVID-19 vaccination, and that primary decision-makers are less likely to exhibit hesitancy to being vaccinated against COVID-19 than non-decision-makers in their family. Family decision-makers among teachers can be considered a priority for COVID-19 vaccine promotion, thereby enhancing vaccine acceptance among vulnerable populations—including older adults and children—and preventing adverse outcomes. KEY MESSAGES Question: How prevalent is COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among college teachers? Do differences exist between decision-makers and non-decision-makers? Findings: We found that a substantial proportion of college teachers are hesitant to being vaccinated against COVID-19, and that family decision-makers exhibited a lower hesitancy rate than non-decision-makers. Meaning: Our findings indicate that distinguishing between family decision-makers and non-decision-makers is necessary to facilitate vaccination promotion interventions among college teachers.

HPV vaccination rates remain low among US adolescents, with only 54% completing the series in 2019. The vaccine is recommended at age 11–12 but can be given as early as age 9. Although it has been found that offering the vaccine earlier improves completion rates by age 13, parents remain reluctant to allow their younger children to initiate this vaccine. The purpose of this study was to better understand parental beliefs regarding receipt of the HPV vaccine among their children at ages 9–10. A 40 min phone interview was completed with 21 participants who were asked about their vaccine viewpoints. Even after receiving one-on-one education from a patient navigator, many caretakers expressed inadequate knowledge of the HPV vaccine and limited exposure to both positive and negative influences. The biggest concern was vaccine side effects, often resulting from a lack of medical understanding. Most parents were reluctant to vaccinate their children at a school-based clinic or pharmacy and believed that the government should not mandate HPV vaccination for public school attendance. Our study provides insight into parental beliefs and attitudes about HPV vaccination at age 9–10 years and barriers that need to be addressed.

Giriş: Aşı yaptırma tercihi bireylerin/vasilerinin kişisel kararları olmaktan çok bulundukları çevrenin (fizik, biyolojik ve sosyal) ve yürütülen sağlık hizmetlerinin bir sonucudur. Çalışmada Türkiye gibi gelişmekte olan ülkelerde topluma önderlik edebilecek meslek gruplarından birisi olan öğretmenlerde aşı ile ilgili bilgi ve tutumları ile aşı güvenirliği düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma, 2020 eğitim-öğretim yılının ilk yarıyılında Eskişehir il merkezinde yapılmış kesitsel tipte bir araştırmadır. İldeki okullar ilkokul ve ortaokul olarak tabakalandırıldı. Tabakaların ağırlıkları dikkate alınarak seçilecek okul sayıları belirlendi. Okulların listesinden rastgele örneklemle belirlenen 9 ilkokul, 12 ortaokul; toplamda 21 okul seçildi. Seçilen okullarda görev yapmakta olan ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 752 öğretmen çalışmaya alındı. Bulgular: Katılımcıların Aşı Güvenirlik Ölçeği'nden aldıkları toplam puan ile bilgi sorularından aldıkları toplam puanlar arasında pozitif yönde zayıf bir ilişki (r=0,277, p=<0,001), tutum sorularından aldıkları toplam puanlar arasında ise pozitif yönde orta düzeyde bir ilişki (r=0,440, p=<0,001) olduğu saptandı. Sonuç: Çalışmada öğretmenlerin aşı bilgilerinin pek yüksek olmadığı ancak verilecek eğitimler ile bilgi düzeylerinin artırılması ile aşıya karşı güven duygularının arttığı gösterilmiştir. Aşılama programlarının yaygınlaştırılmasında öğretmenlerin ön saflarda görevlendirilmeleri ile toplumsal bağışıklamanın hız kazanacağına inanılmaktadır.
