A Polyaniline Nanoparticles Crosslinked Hydrogel with Excellent Photothermal Antibacterial and Mechanical Properties for Wound Dressing

Abstract: Antibacterial hydrogel wound dressing is highly desirable in wound healing and infection control. However, the development of antibacterial hydrogels with controllable antibacterial properties and adequate mechanical properties without bacterial resistance and potential toxicity remains a challenge. Herein, a double bonds-ended polyaniline nanoparticle (Me-PANI NP) is synthesized, which can convert light energy into heat upon near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, and it is used as a novel photothermal antibacterial… Show more

“…Interestingly, we found that PVA-CS-PA 30% -PANI has the best antimicrobial effect, probably because PANI is a photothermal conversion agent that gradually absorbs the energy of near-infrared light from the environment and converts it into heat in a certain way, thus providing a sterilizing effect. 59 As we all know, AN is soluble in ether and slightly soluble in water, while ether and water are not mutually soluble. Therefore, to prove that there was no residual AN monomer in the composite hydrogel, we added ether to the PVA-CS-PA 30% -PANI that had not yet gelled after the reaction.…”

“…[75] In the polymerization method, a monomer is cross-linked into a 3D structure through a polymerization process. [56] Different polymer hydro-gels can be synthesized via this approach, including polyaniline hydrogels, [76] poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) hydrogels, [8b] etc. In the chemical cross-linking of polymer macromolecules, the chains of a polymer are chemically bonded together via an external cross-linking agent or through the formation of bonding between adjacent polymer chains.…”

“…The strategy of chemical synthesis has been applied to the fabrication of NMFHs through the introduction of organic NPs or functionalized inorganic NPs into gel networks. For example, Pang and Zhu developed a photothermal antibacterial hydrogel through introducing double bond-ended polyaniline NPs (Me-PANI NPs) into the polyacrylamide (PAM) network [45]. The Me-PANI NPs were self-assembled from the amphiphilic copolymer PANI-g-Methacrylated glycol chitosan (MeCC) which was formed via grafting the hydrophobic PANI onto the hydrophilic MeGC chain.…”
