A path selection approach with genetic algorithm for P2P video streaming systems

Abstract: In peer-to-peer (P2P) video streaming applications, the Quality of Experience (QoE) obtained by peers may vary according to the level of network congestion on the path between the peer and its parents. In this paper, we have proposed a parent selection approach for hybrid push-pull based video streaming systems, taking physical paths into account. In this approach, we proactively measured the disjunction of paths between peers and partners and chose the set of parents among partners having maximum disjoint pat… Show more

“…Thus, finding the best path between the sender and receiver also plays a major role in P2P networks. The approaches to path selection using genetic algorithm are used to take care of the same [31]. These methods use mutation and crossover procedures with series of the population.…”

“…It is another path disjointedness-based peer selection approach that uses a genetic algorithm to select a partner as a parent for streaming that has maximum paths between peers and set of candidate partners. 64 Traceroute is used to extract physical path information between itself and candidate partners. This information is exchanged periodically through buffermap messages.…”

“…As the peer changes location, maintenance of appropriate path selection becomes crucial for P2P network. Karayer et al define a new path selection mechanism that provides the best path selection between the peers using genetic algorithm . Mutation and crossover procedure on a series of data takes place in the approach.…”

“…Karayer et al define a new path selection mechanism that provides the best path selection between the peers using genetic algorithm. 53 Mutation and crossover procedure on a series of data takes place in the approach. Traceroute command is used for finding the actual physical path between the peers and according to that information a decision is taken.…”
