A passionate travel to mind green turtles—Unpacking the complexity of visitors' green behaviour

Abstract: The current studies in the tourism-environmental domain often take a reductionist approach towards the complex issue of human behaviour that is criticized for its shortcomings. Therefore, to fill this gap, the authors developed and tested a theoretical model drawing on the complexity theory with emerging concepts, that is, dualistic-passion paradigm, and mindfulness notion to predict the potential source of pro-environmental behaviour. Following Fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) of a sample fr… Show more

“…History Cyprus has drawn the attention of many countries and ethnicities due to its strategic location -numerous powers have ruled the island and in this regard, the island's multicultural identity is extremely important (Mısırlısoy and G€ unce, 2021). However, the island state of North Cyprus is delicate and intricate in terms of its sustainability (Rezapouraghdam and Akhshik, 2021;Akhshik et al, 2021). Most study participants view North Cyprus' history as having significant potential for cultural heritage tourism.…”

“…Based on the aforementioned discussion and as noted earlier, the integration of a systems thinking approach to tourism education makes it possible to facilitate a transition to sustainable tourism development. The world now more than ever must encourage responsible travel (Akhshik et al , 2020a; Rezapouraghdam et al , 2021), responsible tourism employees (Karatepe et al , 2020a, 2020b) and sustainable destination management (Akhshik et al , 2020b; Toker and Rezapouraghdam, 2021). Considering the fact that today’s tourism students are going to be tomorrow’s employees, managers of destinations and/or a part of the local community who travel or host travellers, there is a need to foster responsible thinking and action.…”

“…Therefore, we prefer the fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis approach, which stems from complexity theory. Fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis is distinct from net effect models (Rihoux & Ragin, 2008) and enables the assessment of causal relationships, which are highly complex and involve different combinations of intersecting causal conditions capable of generating the same outcome (Akhshik et al, 2021). Because we are comparing American and Mexican consumers, we analyzed the data from the two groups of samples separately.…”
