A Particle Event at 5 AU and 20° Southern Latitude from Measurements with the EPAC Instrument on Ulysses

An unusually fast interplanetary coronal mass ejection observed by Ulysses at 5 AU on 15 November 2003

“…Although Figure 5 shows very few classic ICME signatures, the extreme speed of 1009 km s −1 observed on 8 November 1992 lies outside of the usual range of speeds for a high‐speed stream and can best be attributed to some transient event, such as an ICME [ Reuss et al , 1995; Lim et al , 1996]. The CME probably originated from AR 7321 sometime between 30 October and 2 November 1992 [ Reuss et al , 1995; Lim et al , 1996]. This event drove a forward shock that passed Ulysses on 8 November 1992, at 1533 UT, indicated by the vertical dashed line in Figure 5.…”
