A novel Vivaldi antenna for UWB detection

Abstract: This paper presents a modified structure of the Vivaldi antenna based on an FR4 dielectric substrate of 0.8 mm thickness and 110 mm × 96 mm dimensions for ultra-wideband (UWB) detection systems. The modified Vivaldi antenna has two major novelties. (1) Bottle-shaped slots are etched on both sides of the classic Vivaldi antenna to extend the surface current path length and concentrate electromagnetic energy. ( 2) Rectangular metal strips are implemented in front of the exponential slot to guide the UWB radiatio… Show more

“…A Vivaldi antenna, as shown in Figure 1B reported in, 20 with a size of 110 × $\times $ 96 × $\times $ 0.8 mm, operates in the frequency range of 3–8 GHz to achieve wider band characteristics. Its substrate material is fiber epoxy resin (FR‐4), coated with the perfect electric conductor (PEC) of 0.035 mm thickness.…”

“…17 To obtain better radiation characteristics, several guiding structures have been considered. 18,19 To better support our reported system, we designed a Vivaldi antenna 20 that incorporates a bottle-shaped slot and rectangular metal strips compared to those reported in the literature mentioned above.…”
