A Novel Technique of Synthesis of Highly Fluorescent Carbon Nanoparticles from Broth Constituent and In-vivo Bioimaging of C. elegans

Abstract: Here we have demonstrated a novel single step technique of synthesis of highly fluorescent carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) from broth constituent and in vivo bioimaging of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) with the synthesized CNPs has been presented. The synthesized CNPs has been characterized by the UV-visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman studies. The sp (2) cluster size of the synthesized samples has been determined from the measured Raman spectra by fitti… Show more

“…4(a) show that the GO emitted a broad band centered at around 430 nm. Because of the wide size distribution of sp 2 domains in GO, which calculated to be 4.19 nm from Raman data, 42 the corresponding band gaps also cover a wide size range, leading to a wide PL emission spectrum from visible to near infrared. Upon excitation at 340 nm, the CQDs exhibit one broad and strong emission band at around 450 nm ( Fig.…”

“…39 However, the finite crystalline size in the presence of defects in N-GQD3 might have caused the broadening in the D and G bands of the Raman spectrum. 40 Dimension of the sp 2 core has also been calculated to be ∼7 nm 41 by using the data of intensity ratio I D / I G = 0.68 of D band ( I D ) and G band ( I G ) Raman peaks. The value of I D / I G in the present study is large enough compared to that of the pure graphitic structures (∼0.365), 42 and it is due to the presence of zone boundary-related defect states as mentioned earlier.…”

“…Zeta potential values of CDs were measured using a Zetasizer instrument (Malvern Instruments, Nano ZS, United Kingdom). The fluorescence QY of the CDs was calculated according to the method previously reported ( Yang et al, 2015 ; Pramanik et al, 2016a , b ). Briefly, a comparative assay was utilized using the following equation ( Yang et al, 2015 ):…”
