Facile one-step fabrication of upconversion fluorescence carbon quantum dots anchored on graphene with enhanced nonlinear optical responses

Abstract: A novel nanocomposite hybrid, carbon quantum dots (CQD)/graphene oxide (GO), which combines the favorable optical properties of both its components, is synthesized by a facile one-step electrochemical method.

“…The D band corresponds to the vibration peak of the terminal graphite carbon (sp 3 ) planes, and the G band denotes the vibration of the hexagonal lattice of two-dimensional carbon. Moreover, the peak at 3000 cm –1 corresponds to the 2D band that confirms the number of sp 2 layers presented in the CQD . The same type of peaks appeared in the Co 3 O 4 –CQD composite, which proves the carbon network presented in the Co 3 O 4 –CQD composite.…”

“…Moreover, the peak at 3000 cm −1 corresponds to the 2D band that confirms the number of sp 2 layers presented in the CQD. 57 The same type of peaks appeared in the Co , which has a woven sphere shape, whereas the CQD has a spherical ball-shaped structure. 63 The Co 3 O 4 −CQD has a brush-like structure 64 which is entirely different from Co 3 O 4 , and this structural change is due to CQD acting as a surfactant.…”

“…Up to now, some investigations have focused on the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of CQDs, because CQDs offers the featureless absorption spectra which cause the unique broadband optical power limiting (OPL) possibilities. 14,15 Comparing with other emerging types of nonlinear optical materials (such as MOF, antimonene, MXenes, TiS 2 , and perovskites) [16][17][18][19][20] , CQDs exhibit comparable OPL property. Moreover, CQDs have been regarded as promising candidates in NLO device design because of the presence of abundant delocalized π-electrons, which ensured the materials good nonlinear optical performance.…”

“…The G-band (sp 2 hybridization) represents the graphitization degree associated with the CNPs, and the D-band (sp 3 hybridization) represents the amount of defect and functionalization. The I G /I D ratio indicates that the synthesized CNPs mainly comprise sp 2 graphitic carbons with sp 3 carbon defects originating from oxygen-containing groups [64][65][66][67] that agree with the negative surface charge of the nanoparticles. SERS results agree with Raman spectra of CDs obtained by other methods [66,68].…”
