“…Multinucleated giant cells (MGC) have been described in fish with bacteriosis (Olsen et al, 2006;Swaim et al, 2006;Jacobs et al, 2009), parasitosis (Adriano et al, 2005Hogge et al, 2008), and fungus (Sosa et al, 2007;Oidtmann et al, 2008), with in Pesq. agropec.…”

“…Multinucleated giant cells (MGC) have been described among fish with infectious or parasitic diseases (Olsen et al, 2006;Hogge et al, 2008;Jacobs et al, 2009), and in experimental in vitro (Couso et al, 2002) and in vivo (Petric et al, 2003b;Belo et al, 2005) models. Accumulation of inflammatory cells at the lesion site is the main inflammation event to protect the organism against foreign elements (Kumar et al, 2004).…”

“…In spite of the limited number of the isolates tested (only one) it seems that Francisella sp., an intracellular facultative microorganism, had the highest resistance to Duplalim ® than the extracellular pathogens such as V. ordalii and V. anguillarum. In a recent study, Verner-Jeffreys et al (2009) reported that two Gram-positive bacteria (Lactococcus garviae and Carnobacterium piscicola) were apparently more resistant to four biocide products than other two of infected host cells (Olsen et al 2006) the resistance shown by the isolate to Duplalim ® might be explained by the low concentration that can be attained by this disinfectant compound. Until now, the molecular base of this resistance is unknown.…”

“…cultivated at 20 ºC were picked up from cysteine heart agar (Difco™) plates containing 5% sheep blood (Olsen et al 2006), adjusted in sterile freshwater to contain 3 x 10 8 CFu x ml -1 . Duplalim ® was evaluated during 2, 5 and 15 min treatment periods for the control of Francisella sp.…”
