A Novel Proposal of Gaofen-3 Satellite Constellation for Multi-Applications

Abstract: Gaofen-3 is the first C-band fully polarimetric SAR satellite in China, which is widely used in various fields such as ocean monitoring, disaster reduction and so on. In this paper, a new satellite constellation is proposed based on the orbit of Gaofen-3 satellite. The constellation includes Gaofen-3 and other two duplicates. It is able to do repeat-pass interferometry, repeat-pass differential interferometry, along-track interferometry and stereo measurement. With these abilities, it can generate the earth DE… Show more

“…It has the ability of using its 12 imaging modes to scan swaths varying from 10 km to 650 km with a corresponding resolution varying from 1 m to 500 m [4]. The primary objective of GF-3 is to make multimode and high-resolution C-band data available for a wide spectrum of both scientific and civilization applications in such fields as ocean monitoring, disaster reduction, and water conservancy [6]. The GF-3 satellite was officially put into operation in January 2017.…”

“…Similar to the marine dynamic satellite constellation, China is also building a monitoring satellite constellation, which is expected to be completed in 2022 [86]. The main payload of that constellation is a 1 m resolution synthetic aperture radar.…”

“…It is the first fully C-band polarimetric SAR satellite in China and is capable of acquiring high-resolution and largewidth SAR images. It has been widely used in the application of ocean wind, ship detection, and terrain survey [14][15][16][17]. Wang et al, 2019 made an attempt to use only five Gaofen-3 SAR images to perform the land subsidence over Beijing using InSAR technology [18]-except that there is limited research and applications related to land subsidence monitoring based on Gaofen-3 SAR images via time series InSAR technology due to its imperfect interferometric performance.…”
