A novel osteopontin‐like protein is expressed in the trout ovary during ovulation

Abstract: Using suppression subtraction hybridization between ovulatory and postovulatory trout ovaries, a down-regulated cDNA was obtained that presumably encodes a novel ovarian protein (`NOP'). NOP mRNA is present in the ovary during ovulation and down-regulated by 48 h postovulation, suggesting an important role for NOP during ovulation. Besides the ovary, NOP is also strongly expressed in the testis and at lower levels in the skin, gills, kidney and gastrointestinal tract. While the overall identity is not high, NO… Show more

“…An SPP1 ortholog has been identified in the zebrafish and trout (Bobe and Goetz, 2001;Kawasaki et al, 2004), as well as in fugu, medaka, stickleback, sea bream, and fathead minnow (Fonseca et al, 2007). Although SPP1 and the ancestral SPARCL1 remain in a linked chromosomal region in tetrapod genomes, these 2 genes appear to be separated by an interchromosomal re-arrangement in these teleost fish (Fig.…”
