A novel nanosilica/graphene oxide hybrid and its flame retarding epoxy resin with simultaneously improved mechanical, thermal conductivity, and dielectric properties

Abstract: Graphene is regarded as a prominent multi-functional flame retardant for use in halogen-free flame retardant polymers with simultaneously improved integrated properties and special functionalities. However, its flame retardant efficiency is not impressive enough due to the weak resistance to thermooxidative decomposition. In order to overcome this problem, the surface of graphene oxide was covered with large amounts of non-flammable silicas through a sol-gel and surface treatment process, and then used to modif… Show more

“…Silica-based materials, such as silica nanospheres [140], silica [141,142], silicon nanoparticle [143] and silica-containing mineral nanomaterials (such as sepiolite nanorods [144], montmorillonite [145,146], halloysite nanotubes [147], and tubular clay [148]), can be combined with silicates. Most of them exhibit a layer structure for the silica-containing mineral nanomaterials.…”

“…[40] N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC, 99.7%), triethylamine, tetrahydrofuran (THF), dichloromethane, methanol and toluene were of analytical reagent grade and purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. Hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and N-aminoethyl piperazine (AEPZ) were purchased from Aladdin Co., Ltd, which were purified by distillation before use. SPDPC was prepared in our laboratory according to the previous work.…”

“…It is well known that 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) derivatives display superior flame retardant properties as consequence of activity in both the gaseous and condensed phases. [11][12][13][14] Many DOPO-based flame retardants with excellent flammability inhibiting properties have been reported. [15][16][17][18][19][20] A flame retardant derived from DOPO and triazole has been prepared.…”
