A Novel Modified Sine-Cosine Optimized MPPT Algorithm for Grid Integrated PV System under Real Operating Conditions

Abstract: This research work presents a modified sine-cosine optimized maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for grid integration. The developed algorithm provides the maximum power extraction from a photovoltaic (PV) panel and simplified implementation with a benefit of high convergence velocity. Moreover, the performance and ability of the modified sine-cosine optimized (MSCO) algorithm is equated with recent particle swarm optimization and artificial bee colony algorithms for comparative observation. “…The Mamdani type FLC MPPT method has been presented in [38], and its performance was compared to the PSO-based MPPT method. Additional optimization methods have been proposed in the literature for enhancing the MPPT performance in several applications [39]- [41]. Several hybrid optimization algorithms-FLC methods have been proposed in the literature for PV applications [42]- [44].…”

“…They vary in many aspects, such as complexity, cost, sensors required, implementation hardware, convergence speed or range of effectiveness [12]. It has been observed in recent years that there is a passion to propose new MPPT techniques based on artificial intelligence [13], [14] or modified hybrid optimizations [15], [16] to increase the efficiency of the energy production of photovoltaic system. However, in most cases, there is no need to use a more complicated or a more expensive algorithm, where a simpler and less expensive system can result in similar outputs.…”

“…Though the tracking efficiency is improved but tracking speed and accuracy is still challenging to track the new mpp, at sudden varying irradiance condition. Some researchers focused on mathematical based theorem for mppt algorithms [16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. In [16], the authors modified a conventional INC algorithm by applying a residual theorem; here the fluctuation around the MPP have been minimized to apply a minimum residue values of algorithm by setting a proper gain value of controller.…”

“…Its computation time is higher in comparison to the conventional algorithm. Likewise some of the soft computing based algorithms are developed in [19][20][21][22]. In these methods, the oscillation around MPP is reduced, but the computation time increases because of learning based adaptive step size perturbation.…”
