A novel miniature hexagonal shape switched pattern and frequency reconfigurable antenna

Abstract: Summary This proposed work introduces the structure of frequency and pattern reconfigurable patch antenna. This proposed design comprises of a hexagon patch antenna with four oblique slits, two longitudinal and two latitudinal slits. Four PIN diodes are used to enable frequency and pattern reconfiguration in the longitudinal and latitudinal slits. The operating frequencies of the proposed reconfigurable antenna are 4.25, 5.65, 6.8, and 8.2 GHz and have a pattern slope of −30°, 0°, +30°, and 180°. The pattern i… Show more

“…For high-frequency NB operation, we used three PIN diodes. As per the datasheet (skyworks) 42 of SMP1320-079LF diode, the typical equivalent component values in the forward bias state are 0.75 Ω at 10 mA with a series inductance of 0.7 nH while in the reverse bias state, the capacitance is 0.23 pF at 30 V. Figure 9 shows the biasing network [43][44][45][46] to eliminate interference between RF and DC signals. It consists of a PIN diode sandwiched between two DC blocking capacitors (10 pF).…”

“…Many techniques have been proposed in literature to reconfigure the antennas [10][11][12][13][14] that can be mainly categorized as either electronic, optical, mechanical and material. Besides needing to be low in complexity and effectiveness in implementing reconfiguration techniques, the antenna topology for such antennas needs to have a compactness feature.…”

“…In the present scenario, reconfigurable antennas have grabbed huge attention from the research community due to their ability to integrate multiple standards into a single platform [1]. Therefore, the wireless systems are empowered with reconfigurable antennas to enhance the overall performance and providing cost-effective solutions [2].…”
