A Novel Medium for Enhancing Callus Growth of Hazel (Corylus avellana L.)

Abstract: Paclitaxel is a powerful antimitotic agent with excellent activity against a range of cancers. Hazel has been described as a paclitaxel-producing species among angiosperms. Fast-growing callus is a prerequisite for the success of callus production and then paclitaxel production. Therefore, optimizing the medium culture for enhancing callus growth is a crucial step for paclitaxel production. In this research, Murashige and Skoog (1962) (MS) medium was optimized for improving callus growth of hazel (Corylus avel… Show more

“…The callus of hazel ( C. avellana ) was obtained from seed cotyledons on MS medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l 6-benzylaminopurine and 2 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and solidified with 8 g/l agar agar 50 . The C. avellana CSC was established with transferring 5 g callus into 250 ml flasks containing 100 ml medium and were maintained at 25 °C in darkness on gyratory shakers at 110 rpm.…”

“…Por esse motivo vem sendo intensamente estudada em novas linhas de pesquisas, como o desenvolvimento de biofilmes estruturais, para o recobrimento de frutos na fase de pós-colheita. Muitos estudos têm focado na biofertilização e bioestimulação de plantas na fase de cultivo (Godlewska et al, 2016;Michalak et al, 2017;Salehi et al, 2017).…”

“…Callus of C. avellana (ecotype Gerd Ashkorat) was produced from seed cotyledons on MS medium 60 supplemented with 2 mg l −1 2, 4-D and 0.2 mg l −1 BAP, and 8 g l −1 agar agar 6 . CSC of C. avellana was obtained as described by Salehi et al 6,7,10,12 .
