Phytotoxic and agro beneficial properties of antimicrobially efficient Sulfur nanoparticles (SNPs) and ZnO nanoparticles (ZNPs) were evaluated on Mung (Vigna radiata). Mung seeds were germinated with an increasing concentration gradient of nanoparticles. The extent of phtotoxicity were assessed depending upon the effect of used nanoparticles on physical factors (relative root and shoot length, dry weight and area of leaves), photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll, carotene and xanthophyll content) and mitochondrial stress indicator level (thiol), A simultaneous study was undertaken to understand the effect of SNPs and ZNPs on overall plant growth and nutrition. The nutritive values of nanoparticles were determined in terms of total lipid and protein content. All the aforementioned biochemical assays were performed in triplicate for statistical viability.

Due to enormous applications of metal oxide nanoparticles in research and health-related applications, metal oxide nanoparticles are increasingly being developed through cheaper and more user-friendly approaches. We have formulated a simple route to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZNPs) by a sol–gel method at near-room temperatures 25°C, 35°C, 55°C, and 75°C. The results are analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The effect of different temperature conditions (25°C–75°C) on the particulate sizes (23.7–88.8 nm), pH levels (11.7–11.9), and morphologies (slender needle–broad arrow) of flower-shaped ZNP colonies is studied. A possible mechanism depicting the growth rates at different temperatures and of different facets, mainly towards the <0 0 0 I> and <0 I Ī 0> planes of the ZNPs has also been discussed. The values of λ max (293–298 nm) suggest that ZNPs prepared at 55°C are the most effective ultraviolet B absorbers, and that they can be used in sunscreens. Highly significant antimicrobial activity against medically important Gram-positive ( Staphylococcus aureus ) and Gram-negative ( Escherichia coli ) bacteria and fungi ( Candida albicans ) by these ZNPs was also revealed. As S. aureus and C. albicans are responsible for many contagious dermal infections such as abscesses, furuncles, carbuncles, cellulitis, and candidiasis, we can postulate that our fabricated ZNPs may be useful as antimicrobial agents in antiseptic creams and lotions for the treatment of skin diseases.

This paper reports on ZnO nano-whiskers (ZNWs), synthesized by sol-gel method at a pre-determined speed by using zinc acetate dehydrate and a cationic surfactant, N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) . The effect of pre-determined stirring condition on the particle size, aspect-ratio and morphology of ZNWs has been studied. The SEM and TEM result shows that zinc oxide developed into the huge colony consisting of adequate ZnO nano-whiskers, which contained a large number of long needle-like whiskers and the density of these colonies showed a good amount in each bunch. The average length and diameter of the long needle-like ZnO nano-whiskers are 36 nm and 1.15 nm, respectively, and their average aspect ratio was L/D = 31.3.The photo-catalytic activity of the ZNWs was executed by studying the degradation of Acid Red 183 as a function of irradiation time resulting into 68% of decolouration after 150 min of irradiation in the presence of ZNWs under UV light illumination.
