PurposeThis study aims to develop a cause-effect relationship between criteria that contribute to water security using the Intuitionistic Fuzzy-Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (IF-DEMATEL) method. Differently from the typical DEMATEL which utilizes crisp numbers, this modification introduces intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IFNs) to enhance judgments in a group decision-making environment. In particular, the linguistic variables used in IF-DEMATEL are defined using the concept of three-tuple of IFNs.Design/methodology/approachData with the linguistic variable “influence” were collected from a group of experts in water security via personal unstructured interviews. Seven water security criteria are considered in this study. Computational software was employed to execute the computational procedures of the IF-DEMATEL method. It is anticipated that by taking into account the hesitation degree of IFNs will reflect the scenario in real life, which could lead to precise decision-making.FindingsThe results show that “Over-Abstraction”, “Saltwater Intrusion” and “Limited Infrastructures” are the cause criteria that contribute to water security. In addition, the relationship map of influence shows that “Water Pollution” and “Rapid Urbanization” are the most vulnerable criteria as these two criteria are most easily affected by other criteria in a unidirectional relation.Practical implicationsIt is anticipated that these findings will serve as useful references for water security management and policymakers.Originality/valueThe present study makes a noteworthy contribution to the modification of DEMATEL where three-tuple of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers are considered in the computations. The present study also provides additional evidence with respect to factors that contribute to water security.

Industry 4.0 technologies offer manufacturing companies numerous tools to enhance their core processes, including monitoring and control. To optimize efficiency, it is crucial to effectively install monitoring sensors. This paper proposes a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach as a practical solution to the sensor placement problem in the food industry, having been applied to wine bottling line equipment at a real Italian winery. The approach helps decision-makers when discriminating within a set of alternatives based on multiple criteria. By evaluating the interconnections within the different equipment, the ideal locations of sensors are suggested, with the goal of improving the process’s performance. The results indicated that the system of electric pumps, corker, conveyor, and capper had the most influence on the other equipment which are then recommended for sensor control. Monitoring this equipment will result in the early discovery of failures, potentially also involving other dependant equipment, contributing to enhance the level of performance for the whole bottling line.

The Key Criteria for Predicting Unusual Behavior in the Elderly With Deep Learning Models Under 5G Technology

Deep learning algorithms and technology based on 5G networks may be able to help identify unusual behavior in elderly people. Because 5G networks have a lower latency and a greater bandwidth, it is possible to use more complex algorithms and larger data sets for training and detection in a real-time. On top of that, real-time analysis of the data gathered through in-home monitoring of the elderly can become much simpler to carry out with the help of 5G's potential to simplify the process. However, the system needs to be developed in a way that it considers the preferences of the most important criteria of elderly people, who have more requirements in terms of their living situation and the environment in which they live. Therefore, this study advocated using ''Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory'' (DEMATEL) to analyze the most crucial criteria (feature) required for creating a model for identifying odd behavior in elderly persons. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Long Short-Term Memories (LSTMs) are adopted in detecting unusual behavior in the elderly after the analysis key criteria for predicting unusual behavior in the elderly by DEMATEL. The research established a concept by linking the SIMADL dataset with the dimension of elderly people's behavior and performed an experimental analysis using both CNN and LSTM. Performance evaluations show that the LSTM performs better in detecting unusual behavior in elderly persons with 96% accuracy. Depressive disorder is the most significant aspect of ageing that might lead to a typical unusual behavior in elderly persons, according to DEMATEL analysis.
