“…With HP-KB 3 O 5 (HP = high pressure), we synthesized a new borate, in which the two well-known fundamental structural motifs, alias BO 3 and BO 4 groups, and all noted conjunctions, namely corner-sharing of BO 3 /BO 4 groups and corner-as well as edge-sharing of BO 4 tetrahedra, are discovered in one crystal structure for the first time. This occurred in the scope of pressure-induced crystallization experiments on glass forming alkali borates, whilst investigating the ternary system K-B-O, where six different crystal structures are known: K 5 B 19 O 31 , [15] KB 5 O 8 , [16,17] [20,21] and KB 3 O 5 . [22,23] The latter (ambient-pressure modification) is built up from rigid triborate rings consisting of two corner-sharing BO 3 triangles and a cornersharing BO 4 tetrahedron.…”
