A new species of the Scinax catharinae group (Anura: Hylidae) from southeastern Brazil

Abstract

We describe a new species of the Scinax catharinae group from coastal forest in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. We also describe the karyotype and the advertisement call of the new species, which is composed by a multipulsed note. The chromosome morphology of the new species shows the nucleolar organizer region (NOR) on Pair 6, a putative synapomorphy previously inferred for the S. catharinae clade. We report, for the first time, the presence of mental glands in a species of the genus Scinax. Additionally, we provide a brief discussion about the occurrence of glandular tissue on the mental and inguinal regions of the species of the S. catharinae clade.

Comparative analysis based on replication banding reveals the mechanism responsible for the difference in the karyotype constitution of treefrogs Ololygon and Scinax (Arboranae, Hylidae, Scinaxinae)

Novos Registros Geográficos, Variação Morfológica e Notas de História Natural de Scinax tripui (Amphibia, Anura, Hylidae) na Mata Atlântica de Minas Gerais (Brasil)

“…Foram analisados 74 adultos e juvenis e dois lotes de girinos tombados em coleções científicas, procedentes de 19 localidades nos municípios de Catas Altas, Mariana, Nova Lima, Ouro Preto, Pedra Dourada, Santa Bárbara e Simonésia, em Minas Gerais (Tabela 2, Figura 1). Como já mencionado, S. tripui já havia sido previamente registrado nos municípios de Mariana, Nova Lima, Ouro Preto e Simonésia (Lourenço et al, 2009;Lourenço et al, 2013;Lourenço et al, 2014;Lourenço et al, 2016;Peixoto et al, 2016).
