Knowing the patterns and mechanisms that regulate spatiotemporal dynamics in aquatic communities is a great challenge. Theoretically, the distribution of aquatic insects is related to food and shelter availability, and/or to dispersal. In this perspective, we analyzed the spatiotemporal variation of Trichoptera communities of a Cerrado stream for 3 years. The longitudinal and temporal distribution provided a good explanation of the variation of the Trichoptera species composition. Specifically, 21.4 and 11.5% of the variation in composition was explained by longitudinal and temporal variation, respectively, and 8.3% by the interaction of both factors. The variation of environmental conditions (pH, total dissolved solids and dissolved oxygen) and temporal autocorrelation were the most important predictors for the distribution of Trichoptera communities. Accordingly, it is possible to assume that seasonal variation throughout the year is also an important factor for this aquatic community, in addition to water quality, as is widely known. Therefore, climate change should affect both temporal and spatial patterns of Trichoptera communities present in Cerrado streams. Consequently, such effect should be expected to occur in other regions with more marked seasons.

Miroculis (Ommaethus) Savage and Peters, 1983 (Ephemeroptera, Leptophlebiidae) is reviewed based on fresh material from Southeastern Brazil and on type specimens. Miroculis (Ommaethus) cipoensis sp. n. is described based on male and female imagos from Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. It can be distinguished from other species of the subgenus based on the following characteristics: forewings with membrane brown and dark brown mark around cross veins; hind wing uniformly brown; forceps segment I light brown, segment II and III lighter; penis lobe long (at least ⅔ of forceps segment I) and apically rounded and curved on apical ¼; length of body between 5.0 and 6.3 mm. Photographs of fresh material belonging to M. (O.) froehlichi Savage and Peters, 1983 and M. (O.) mourei Savage and Peters, 1983 are provided, clarifying the boundaries between the existing species of the subgenus. Based on that, M. (O.) misionensis Domínguez, 2007 is considered a junior synonym of M. (O.) mourei. A key to the male imagos of the subgenus is presented, as well as a distributional map with updated records of the species.

Miroculis Edmunds represents one of the most species-rich genera amongst Neotropical leptophlebiids comprising 25 valid species, with 18 of them reported from Brazil. Although several species have been described throughout the years, the taxonomy of Miroculis has focused mainly on male imagos, with other semaphoronts often unknown. Here, Miroculis (Miroculis) niltoi sp. nov. is described based on nymphs and imagos from Chapada Diamantina’s Complex, Northeast Brazil. Male imagos of M. (M.) niltoi sp. nov. can be distinguished by the styliger plate being medially cleft with a well-sclerotized ventrally-directed process at the posteromedial margin, while female imagos can be distinguished by the egg guide being well-developed, reaching sternum IX, and sternum IX about as long as wide, with a shallow apical cleft. Together with Miroculis (Miroculis) samba Costa, Almeida & Salles and Miroculis (Miroculis) wolverine Costa, Almeida & Salles, M. (M.) niltoi sp. nov. represents species within Miroculis with male imago exhibiting both extremely long penes and styliger plate. Now, Miroculis comprises 26 valid species, with 19 of them reported from Brazil.
