A New Single-Phase AC Voltage Converter With Voltage Buck Characteristics for Grid Voltage Compensation

Abstract: Voltage sags and swells are the major problems of the power distribution system that arise due to uneven distribution of the single-phase and nonlinear loads. They severely degrade the power quality and may cause the failure of the equipment at the user's side. The voltage sag and swell issues are compensated by operating the AC voltage controllers with bipolar voltage gain characteristics. In these converters, high switching voltage and current, and a large number of switching devices are the main issues that… Show more

“…The average and rms current stresses are detailed here for all switching devices by following the same procedure developed in [19]. In all operating modes of the suggested topology, low frequency switching transistors (Q1 to Q4) and diodes (D1 to D4 and D7 to D8) conduct only for half cycle in one cycle of the input or output voltage.…”

“…The switching and conduction losses are computed with the similar approach developed in reference [17], [19], and [24]. The switching losses depend on the instantaneous value of the switching voltage, current, and frequency.…”

“…During the sensitive industrial process, there are numerous control and motor driving equipment that are sensitive to voltage sag and power supply interruption. Equipment failure caused by a voltage sag or interruption event will often lead to disruption of production and serious comprehensive economic losses [1]- [5]. The development of loss assessment and the design of the treatment scheme is based on the effective assessment of voltage sag and interruption immunity during the process of production.…”

“…of power converters that are very sensitive to amplitude and frequency voltage drifts. Amplitude variation is being studied as sag/swell disturbances, [9], [10], however, frequency changes may compromise the power converters stability due to the passive filter's sensitivity to these kinds of variations [11]. In addition, when the grid frequency changes, the total descriptor function of the power converter also changes.…”
