A new scyphozoan from the Cambrian Fortunian Stage of South China

Abstract: Animals with radial symmetry are abundant in the Cambrian Fortunian Stage of South China, but with relatively low diversity: representatives include Olivooides, Quadrapyrgites, carinachitiids, hexangulaconulariids and Pseudooides. Here, we report a new radial animal, Qinscyphus necopinus gen. et sp. nov., from the Fortunian small shelly fauna of southern Shaanxi Province, South China. Qinscyphus necopinus has a cup-shaped profile, with slightly raised annuli and five groups of triangular thickenings in pentara… Show more

Olivooides mirabilis Yue in Xing et al, 1983 exhibits five apical corners but only 10 apertural lobes (see Steiner et al, 2014, figs.…”

“…Traditionally, finding new taxa among numerous microfossil specimens is time-consuming and labor costing, and it became lower efficient after more than 40 years of research as the gradual addition of the species menus. All-new taxon (Liu et al, 2017) in recent years and in the future have been proven very rare . While taking advantage of stable morphological profiles and extremely abundance of these microfossils, it is possible to adopt artificial intelligence to recognize and select target microfossils.…”
