A new robotic-assisted flexible endoscope with single-hand control: endoscopic submucosal dissection in the ex vivo porcine stomach

Abstract: The RAFE that we developed enabled an expert endoscopist to perform the ESD procedure without any problems and allowed a non-endoscopist to control the endoscope more easily and quickly than a manual endoscope. The RAFE is expected to undergo further development.

“…The MASTER [13], EndoSAMURAI [46], 3D-printed overtube system [12], and 2.6 mm articulating devices [13] are included in the former. EOR and the robotic-assisted flexible endoscope (RAFE) [14] are included in the latter. ETRS is the only platform to combine both of these operations.…”

“…20,21 The use of magnetic anchors and robotassisted countertraction are additional examples of attractive innovative ideas that have been proposed; yet, further studies are needed to establish their utility in clinical practice. 22 More recently, novel interventional platforms for endoscopic resection of colonic lesions have become commercially available. The double-balloon endoluminal system (DiLumen, Lumendi, Westport, Conn, USA) is an overtube-assisted platform with 2 independent inflatable balloons that can be used over a colonoscope.…”

“…We have also been developing flexible endoscopic platforms for ESD in manually driven version [47,48] (Figure 10) and motorized version [49] (Figure 11). They composed of conventional flexible endoscope, two 2.6-mm articulating instruments, and an additional channel.…”
