A new organosilicon adhesive based on polysiloxane and polysilazane

Abstract: A new organosilicon adhesive was prepared by combining a vinyl-containing polysilazane (PSN) and a multifunctional polysiloxane (PSO). The adhesive was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The effect of the PSN content on thermal properties of the adhesive was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermal gravimetric analysis. On the basis of lap shear strength (LSS) test, the effects of the PSN content and the curing conditions on adhesive properties were evaluated. The sa… Show more

“…Schematic overview over possible coupling reactions of polysilazanes (PSz) to prepare silicone networks either directly through reaction with moisture, acrylics/thiols, or with peroxides (previous work), [ 12,13,15,16,18,19,25,30–32 ] or by reaction with multifunctional alcohols at ambient conditions without a catalyst (this work).…”

“…Polysilazane is a well-known polymeric precursor for silicon nitride ceramic and it has found various applications in the fields of high temperature-resistant adhesive, coating, water-repellent layer and silicon nitride fibre [32][33][34][35][36][37]. It also has been successfully used to modify other organic oligomers and polymers, for example, poly(methyl methacrylate), polyacrylonitrile, unsaturated polyester and aniline formaldehyde resin and epoxy resin [38][39][40][41][42][43].…”

“…Particles with more reactive vertex groups act as an interfacial interface with multiple physicochemical crosslinkers . The adhesive matrix also relates to the mechanism of reinforcement between vinyl‐containing polysilazane and a multifunctional polysiloxane to construct strong hydrogen bonds . In a previous study, we successfully crosslinked soy protein‐based adhesives through the incorporation of PAE.…”
