“…Swedish and Estonian researchers have studied UV absorption with a spectrophotometer connected to the dialysate outlet of the dialysis machine (over 20 reports in the 2000's). To assess the concentrations, wavelengths with the highest correlation between absorbance and concentration are used Fridolin et al 2010;Jerotskaja et al 2010;Arund et al 2012;Ghanifar & Nafisi 2016). The method has some limitations in measuring concentrations of specific solutes, but the slope of the absorption versus time descriptor on a logarithmic scale ( Figure 1B) is close to the slope of blood urea concentration versus time (Fridolin et al 2002;Uhlin et al 2003;Uhlin et al 2006;Castellarnau et al 2010;Fridolin et al 2010;Arund et al 2012, Fridolin et al 2013Donadio et al 2014), although the absorption depends on several substances with different distribution volumes and kinetics.…”

“…An optical method, utilizing UV-absorbance, has been proposed for the monitoring of dialysis adequacy [ [10][11][12] ]. An earlier study has indicated that the multiwavelength UV-absorbance method may improve the measurement accuracy for optical creatinine concentration estimation in spent dialysate in terms of relative error, compared to the algorithm, based on the single wavelength approach [ 13 ]. This study was undertaken to explore the effect of complementary parameters related to solute transport in the dialyser and patient.…”
