“…In Korenaga (2009b), the dehydration-stiffening is based on the assumption that Fig. 5 Comparison of the major element compositions of the 1, 3, and 7 GPa near-solidus melts (Falloon et al 2008;Davis et al 2011; this study) with the 3.3-3.5 Ga Barberton komatiites (Robin-Popieul et al 2012), 2.7 Ga Abitibi komatiites (Kerrich and Xie 2002), and 3.8 Ga Isua MORB and OIB (Komiya et al 2004). MORB mid-ocean ridge basalt, OIB ocean island basalt asthenospheric olivine contains <1000 ppm H/Si.…”

“…Among the komatiite suites studies so far, the komatiites most similar to the Quebra Osso komatiites are the high-Al, low-Ti Commondale komatiites and the Weltevreden komatiites from the Barberton Greenstone Belt (Lowe and Byerly, 1999;Connolly et al, 2011;Robin-Popieul et al, 2012;Puchtel et al, 2013). The Quebra Osso komatiites show the same high Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 , low CaO/Al 2 O 3 , strong depletion in LREE and low Re/Os as the Commondale komatiites, but have even higher MgO, slightly lower SiO 2 , and higher Fe 2 O 3 content .…”

“…In contrast, the Weltevreden komatiites were suggested to be the result from anhydrous melting, based on their low H 2 O/Ce ratios (Connolly et al, 2011). A different model for Al-depleted, Al-undepleted, and Al-enriched komatiites was suggested by Robin-Popieul et al (2012), who suggested multi-stage melting at varying pressure for komatiites from the Komati, Hooggenoeg and Weltevreden Formations based on major and lithophile trace elements. In this model, garnet is a stable phase throughout the first stage of small-degree partial melting which produces Al-depleted komatiites, while later stages of high-degree fractional melting occur in the absence of garnet at shallower depths, resulting in the production of Al-enriched komatiites.…”

“…Ambient mantle temperature in the Archean has been suggest to be ~1680 o C (Arndt, 1977;Campbell et al, 1989;Arndt and Nisbet, 2012;Puchtel et al, 2013;Leverington, 2014;Sossi et al, 2016) Robin-Popieul et al, 2012;Kröner et al, 2013;Puchtel et al, 2013;).…”
