A new method for producing computer generated holograms

Abstract: A new method for producing computer generated holograms using line scanning is presented. Using the centrosymmetry and axisymmetry of the principal fringe patterns in a novel look-up table method, the proposed method only needs to calculate and store the intensity data for the scan line in the principal fringe pattern. The memory size and amount of computation can be significantly reduced in the proposed method. The calculational and experimental results show that this method is effective.

“…The line scan (LS) method was developed by Yang et al [24] with the aim of reducing the size of the N-LUT. In the N-LUT method, the size of the LUT for the PFP of a single depth plane is M × N × B.…”

“…An algorithm based on point symmetry of a zone plate, which indicates a CGH generated from a single-point light source, can reduce the computational complexity. 38,39 An adaptive point-spread spherical wave synthesis algorithm 40,41 accelerates CGH calculations by reducing the number of point-light sources using data-compression ideas from graphics processing. An algorithm based on the sparsity of hologram patterns 42 can accelerate CGH calculations by using sparse FFTs whose computational complexity is lower than that of standard FFTs.…”

“…If we assume that the display size is 50 inches as usual TV in consumer market, we need hologram pattern over 1 tera pixels. Thus fast holographic pattern generation is essential problem in commercialization of holographic display which is considered as ideal 3D display [1][2] [3]. In previous work of authors [4], 2 step wave field projection method was proposed to overcome accumulation problem of point source based method.…”
