A New Impregnated Adsorbent for Noble Metal Ion Sorption

Abstract: Noble metals (NM) such as gold, platinum, palladium, and rhodium are widely applied in the electronics and automotive industries. Thus, the search for cheap and selective sorbents for noble metals is economically justified. Nitrolite does not sorb noble metal ions. A new impregnated sorbent was prepared. The natural sorbent Nitrolite was impregnated with Aliquat 336 using a new warm impregnation method. After the impregnation process, Nitrolite adsorbed platinum(IV), palladium(II), and gold(III) ions from the … Show more

“…In our previous studies, SIRs for the sorption of noble metals, including gold, palladium and platinum, were applied giving positive results. Properties of commercially available adsorbents were altered by their impregnating with the extractant selective for noble metal ions [ 22 , 23 ]. The paper aimed at the sorption of Au(III), Pd(II), Pt(IV) and Rh(III) ions from chloride model solutions and the verification of suitability of the impregnated resin for the recovery of noble metals from the real system, i.e., digested random access memory module.…”

“…Though yet with not any apparent or definitive practical application, the scientific community considered of importance the recovery of gold from these various non-cyanide media, importance which is reflected by the series of publications that every year appeared in journals. In the case of gold adsorption onto different materials recent several approaches are considered by the use of metal organic frameworks [1], metal sulphides microspheres [2] or Aliquat 336 (quaternary ammonium salt) impregnating Nitrolite adsorbent [3].…”
