A New High Precision Power Detector of Complex Voltage Signals

Abstract: A current-mode bipolar power detector based on a novel synthesis of translinear loop squarer/divider is presented. The circuits consist of a single multiple-output current controlled current differencing transconductance amplifier (MO-CCCDTA), two current controlled conveyors (CCCII), and one resistor and one capacitor that are both grounded. The errors related to the signal processing and errors bound were investigated and presented in the paper. The PSpice simulation and experimental results are depicted, an… Show more

“…The corner frequency of the LPF, which performs averaging of the RMS function, must be lower than the lowest frequency of the interest ( ω 3dB = 2/ RC ). In the proposed realisation of the power detector, this filter can be implemented on‐chip and will be adjusted by the user, depending on the frequency range and settling time requirements [25]. In order to attain the input frequency, the value of the capacitor should be large enough to get a desired averaging time [7, 26] C>>gmS2max4πfmin where f min is the minimum frequency of the input signal and g mS2 is the maximum transconductance gains of the output stage of the second VDTA, obtained for a maximum input amplitude.…”

“…This sampling frequency should be at least twice the input frequency (fi) according to Nyquist's theorem (equation 3). Petrović (2015) points out that sampling frequency should be kept as high as possible to make the measurement results more precise.…”

“…CDTA is now one of the dominating blocks and is widely being used in numerous applications of analog signal processing. These applications include comparator [4], current limiter [5], analog filters [6,7], inductance simulation circuits [8], modulator [9], multiplier [10], oscillator [11], squaring circuit and square rooter [12], precision power detector [13], rectifier [14] and Schmitt trigger [15]. Apart from these applications, different structures of CDTAs have also been reported by many researchers.…”
