A new glucoceramide from the watermelon begonia, Pellionia repens

Abstract: A new glucoceramide named pellioniareside (1) was isolated from the aqueous ethanolic extract of whole plants of Pellionia repens, together with lupeol (2), uracil (3), (22E,20S,24R)‐5α,8α‐epidioxyergosta‐6,22‐dien‐3‐β‐ol (4), and daucosterol (5). The structure and relative configurations of pellioniareside were identified as (2S,3S,4R,6E,8E)‐1‐O‐β‐d‐glucopyranosyl‐2‐[(2R)‐2‐hydroxytetracosanoylamino]‐1,3,4‐octadecanetriol‐6,8‐diene by analysis of spectral data and by chemical evidence.

“…Previous study showed that lupeol -one of the chief components of Pellionia repens (Lour.) Merr (S70) [15], Cratoxylum cochinchinense (Lour.) Blume (S47) [16], and Bombax ceiba L. (S16) [17] exhibits strong inhibitory effects on osteoclastogenesis [18].…”

“…Some Pellionia plants are used in folk medicine to treat some liver diseases, detoxify the liver, and reduce cholesterol [1] . The previous studies have found that the chemical constituents of the Pellionia genus were amides, triterpenoids, steroids, and other composition [2,3] . In our study program to find anti‐inflammatory activity components from Vietnamese plants, the MeOH extract of Pellionia latifolia showed good NO production inhibition with IC 50 value of 35.7 μg/mL, and therefore was chosen for further study.…”

“…[1] The previous studies have found that the chemical constituents of the Pellionia genus were amides, triterpenoids, steroids, and other composition. [2,3] In our study program to find anti-inflammatory activity components from Vietnamese plants, the MeOH extract of Pellionia latifolia showed good NO production inhibition with IC 50 value of 35.7 μg/mL, and therefore was chosen for further study. This article described three new phenylalanine derivatives (1)(2)(3), a new 2-arylbenzofuran derivative (4), and seven known compounds (5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11) from the leaves of P. latifolia and their NO inhibitory activity in LPS-activated RAW264.7 cells in vitro.…”
