A New ENDOR Cavity Configuration

Abstract

This paper reports a new microwave cavity-rf coil configuration for ENDOR experiments. It consists of a split rectangular cavity operated in the TE201 mode with two columns of multiple horizontal posts traversing the entire cavity and piercing the end walls. The posts are everywhere perpendicular to the microwave electric field and have a negligible effect on the cavity Q. The cavity is substantially widened in the direction which does not affect the cavity frequency in order to provide a good return path for the rf magnetic flux lines. The cavity can readily be adapted for the insertion of a cold finger Dewar. The merits and versatility of this configuration are considered.
