A new dinuclear CuII–SmIIIcomplex with a salen-type Schiff base ligand

Abstract: A heteronuclear CuII–LuIII complex (systematic name: {6,6′‐diethoxy‐2,2′‐[ethane‐1,2‐diylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenolato}trinitratolutetium(III)copper(II)), [CuLu(C20H22N2O4)(NO3)3], with the hexadentate Schiff base compartmental ligand N,N′‐ethylenebis(3‐ethoxysalicylaldiimine) (H2L), has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The Cu and Lu atoms are doubly bridged by two phenolate O atoms afforded by the Schiff base ligand. No classical intermolecular hydrogen bonds are found. Some weak … Show more

“…transition metal atoms through the imino N and phenolic O atoms, [15][16][17] and to coordinate with rare earth metal atoms through the phenolic O and ether O atoms. [18][19][20] Ethane-1,2-diamine was added to the reaction aiming at obtaining a polynuclear complex; however, it bridges the adjacent complex molecules through the hydrogen bonds, instead of the coordination bonds. The preparation of the complex is summarized in the following equation:…”

“…supporting information The potential applications of trivalent lanthanide complexes as contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging and stains for fluorescence imaging have prompted considerable interest in the preparation, magnetic and optical properties of 3 d-4f hetorometallic dinuclear complexes (Baggio et al, 2000;Caravan et al, 1999;Edder et al, 2000;Knoer et al, 2005). As part of our investigations into the structure and applications of 3 d-4f hetorometallic Schiff base complexes (Sui et al, 2006;Sui et al, 2007), we report here the synthesis and X-ray crystal structure analysis of the title complex, (I), a symmetry codes: (i)1/2 + x, 1/2 -y, 1/2 + z). these link the molecules into a two-dimensional layer structure (Fig 2).…”
