A new compact ultra-wideband balun for printed balanced antennas

Abstract: A new ultra-wideband balun and its application for balanced antenna are presented in this paper. To realize the balun-type function, two different types of microstrip to slotline transition forms are adopted for the unbalanced and balanced outputs of the balun. Further, an ultra-wideband balun and its integration with a Vivaldi antenna are designed and fabricated to validate the feasibility of the new approach. Results indicated that the proposed balun and the antenna can operate from 3.6 to 10.7 GHz. For the … Show more

“…It is evident from above discussions that the performance (amplitude and phase balances) of the balanced feeding network defines the achievable SIC levels for presented antenna structure. In this work, a modified version of a differential circuit (balun) reported in [38] has been used for balanced excitation of presented antenna. Two such symmetrical baluns have been used for balanced excitation of T x and R x modes.…”

“…In [21], a conventional Vivaldi antenna is fed by a balun consisting of two different forms of transition structures. The first transition is realized by connecting the microstrip line to the slot line through short-ended via and the second transition is achieved by introducing electromagnetic coupling between the slot line and the output microstrip line.…”

“…In Fact, a Balun is demanded to measure the differentially-fed antenna array. So a wideband balun, proposed in [13], from 3.6 to 10.7 GHz with a good balanced performance within 0.5 dB magnitude imbalance and less than 6 • phase imbalance was used in the testing process. The test results of radiation patterns of normally-fed and differentially-fed U-slot patch antenna arrays in the H-plane are compared in Fig.…”
